Have you seen these? Some sort of Target 4-day sale. Not really sure what it’s about. Seems like a bunch of cleaning supplies.

Sorry that these took so long to post. One thing after another kept distracting me. But here you go. Bergdorf’s “Fashion Week” windows. One is out of focus. Sorry about that. I screwed up and now the windows are down and I can’t reshoot it.

Here is a New York Times article regarding the kick-off for Fashion Week and the BG windows.

Rubik’s Revolution
I saw this on the train this morning. It an electronic version of Rubik’s Cube called Rubik’s Revolution. But rather than using brain power and strategy to solve the puzzle so that each side has their own color, you simply follow the blinking light that travels throughout the center square on each side. Basically, it’s a knockoff of Rock Star, or going much further back, Simon or Merlin.
And since I’m on the subject of Rubik’s Cube, I love this ad for the Sony PlayStation 3.

3 of the 4 northern windows have been swapped out. This chalkboard theme is also being used across the street for the mens’ windows (along with the “old photos“” theme that was used a couple of months ago for the women’s windows).

Bergdorf has been renovating inside of their store for quite some time. The southern windows have been “shuttered” up and decals have been put on them. I’m assuming that this set of windows is going to be shut down for a while as renovations continue. So, it looks like we’ll only have the northern and eastern windows to watch.

Okay. Let me preface this by saying that I do NOT like The Jonas Brothers. They are not, and will never be, the new Hanson.
But seriously, I was walking over to B&H Photo the other night and passed by Madison Square Garden. What a crazy scene, man! The Jonas Brothers’ tour bus was parked on a side street and kids were going crazy painting on it. Obviously, this was allowed on each stop of the tour (there was a sign on the windshield that asked for the windshield not to be painted so that the driver could see out of it while driving).
I thought it was kind of a cool way of connecting with their fans.

The east windows have been switched out. Well… all except two. I’ll post those as soon as they come out. The south windows are currently being changed and those will be posted soon also.
I like these windows. Much more sculpturesque and three dimensional. And anything with a motorcycle is a-okay in my book (though, I much prefer Ducati. But Triumphs are cool.)
UPDATE: Windows 5 & 6 have been added (they were lagging behind). Also, strangely enough, window 4 was replaced.

I shot this as I walked by Dyckman Playground this weekend. It felt like a perfect end of summer shot.

There’s much joy about recently discovered Dr. Dragan David Dabić. Upon getting his hair cut, not only is it immediately apparent that he’s Serbian war criminal Radovan Karadzic, he’s also the long lost missing brother of Eddie Munster.

Bergdorf changed out their south and east windows last Thursday but I’m just now posting them. Sorry for the delay but it has been s0o0o0o0o incredibly humid here in the city that I couldn’t bring myself to leave the air conditioning. I finally did but man, was it miserable.

The blue artwork in the east windows is a series called “Sun Prints” by Brett Day Windham. Basically, they are a type of cyanotype. Construction paper or some other sort of paper is treated with a solution of potassium ferricyanide and ferric ammonium citrate. Objects are then placed on the treated paper, exposed to UV light (such as the the sun), and then rinsed with plain water. The paper will turn blue and the object will show up as negative space.
But this series has a lot of intricate pieces and some very large proportions and so, I’m guessing that negatives were used instead of the actual products.
UPDATE: I came across a great site called bobblebee which had a posting showing this artist’s work in a set of BG windows last november.
Okay. I’m getting bored with this. The line is still thick. I chatted with an “orange shirt” and she said that the wait was about 4 hours. Last year, people could buy an iPhone and be on their way home in less than 5 minutes. (but remember all of those at-home activation horror stories?) This year, activation is in-store and is taking a minimum of 15 minutes. It is that alone that is creating the long queues. Apple and Steve Jobs are going to need a better game plan next release.

The madness continues. The line loops 3 times on 5th Ave and then goes down 57th St to the side entrance of FAO Schwartz.
It’s tuesday, day 5 of the Apple iPhone G3 launch and people are still lining up outside of the 5th Ave cube store. I shot this at 8:45am this morning. The line extended almost to the side entrance of FAO Schwartz.

A couple of tidbits from apple.com/iphone:
The website states that they are only selling the iPhone from 7:00am till 11:30pm each day. And here is a load of bull mahlarky…

“…activate your new iPhone in just a few minutes.”
BTW, the inflatable batting cage in the background was used by the CBS Morning Show in celebration of All-Star Day. It is NOT there for the iPhone line.
