From last month. These window displays were a lot of fun. Yes, you are seeing them correctly. The mannequins are fastened to the walls. The backgrounds are floor plans of BG.

There are two iconic events each year here in Manhattan that herald in the holiday season. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, and the Bergdorf Goodman holiday window displays. Both the tree and the windows are in their “preparation” stage, meaning that we New Yorkers are in our “waiting” stage, but last night, thanks to the graciousness of Mr David Hoey and the muscle of Mr Shane Ruth, the tarps were pulled aside and I was granted a peek at four of the upcoming Bergdorf beauties—thousands of stunning mirrored mosaic tiles, gorgeous metal workings, incredible yarn art, and intricate paper sculptures, all creating exquisite fantasy worlds.
11:00pm on a school night, and the two were still hard at work. Shane was the more relaxed of the two now that his Mens windows across the street were complete and open to the public (which I will be posting tomorrow). David, on the other hand, was still in overdrive with the Womens. But, as you can ascertain from these photos, the long journey to unveiling (18 months of painstaking, hand-crafted detail for some of these windows) is, thankfully for the waiting masses, right around the corner. Always the perfectionist, these windows are an obsession for Mr Hoey, and, after catching a glimpse of what the corner holds in store, it is guaranteed that fans and passers-by alike will not be disappointed by what his fervor and passion will be bringing forth.
This is just a glimpse to whet your appetite. Stay tuned for a proper gallery showing along with credits and stories once the windows are fully unveiled. Better yet, come see them in person. Enjoy!

I came across this shop while cutting through SoHo. Paracelso is a clothing shop/textile gallery owned by Luxor Tavelia. You can read more about her along with viewing a picture of her at the Urban Outfitter’s blog.

Bergdorf’s windows along 5th Avenue showing artwork by three different artists — works by Marietta Hoferer, photography by Ken Matsubara, and mixed media and photography by Bastienne Schmidt. All pieces courtesy of the JHB (Jayne H Baum) Gallery here in NYC on Grove Street. Great stuff all around. I especially like Bastienne’s work.

Holiday 2011 Window Displays
Part two of three from Thai Pham, of Disney in Orlando, Florida.
From Thai…
“My second set of windows this year draws inspiration from Mary Poppins and the Lion King, but putting my own twist on them.”
“The chimney sweeps from Mary Poppins make up our first window. Using the scene of the male dancers jumping out of the chimney, I reinterpreted it with the female forms to translate back to our products that we sell.”
“Next, we have our Jolly Holiday with Mary. playing on the juxtaposition of keeping Mary in the contemporary world while her surroundings are the period illustrated in the movies. In doing this, I used props associated with the movies such as the parasol, her hat, and the penguins, etc…”
“Our third window is our accessories window, also known as our Lion King window. This time I used the mannequin forms and painted them in animal prints to represent the animals, and dressed the animals up with our accessories that we sell in the store.”
“The lighting in all windows was carefully thought out and plays an important role in recreating the atmosphere needed to tell the story.”

Holiday 2011
Hello. It is the holiday season again already. I thought that I would start out this year’s offerings with a submission from long-time reader, Thai Pham, of Disney in Orlando, Florida. There are three posts total; this being the first one.
From Thai…
“It’s that time of the year again, and I have been working deliriously (with help of course) putting it all together for my annual holiday decor in the land of mice and sunshine. It has been a rough few months, but the result is something I can honestly say I’m very proud of. I hope you all enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed putting it all together. Let me first give you some insight into the concept of the design.”
“My goal this year was to tell a story that represents our brand, while trying to to be quirky and fun. Also, in keeping with Disney traditions, we used our product placement featuring Disney iconic moments throughout our Downtown Disney locations.”
“My first set of windows is from our World of Disney, with the Holiday Plaid theme:”
“Holiday plaid is our big thing this year and each picture tells of the story of the plaid. In the first picture, we have have a family delivering rolls of plaid fabric to decorate for the holidays. Next we have our girl painting her studio plaid and getting ready for the plaid holiday. Of course the next picture is the result of her hard work. It is all rounded out with the girl sending a greeting card to Santa in her plaid mailboxes. All revolve around the plaid activities for the holiday.”
