Hermés has some nice holiday windows. The windows are covered with an opaque material with layered honeycomb openings allowing a very minimal look into the actual window contents. These are actually very ballsy as they are more about showcasing design and not showcasing product, which I appreciate. As a result though, I am sure that, in the end, that probably adds to the cachet.

Can’t really see the holiday aspect, but Calvin Klein is showcasing an installation piece, “Black Beacon”, by the British artist, Nathaniel Rackowe (website here.) Consisting of a steel frame and a series of panels that open up, creating a tunnel of light, it is 60 feet long and weighs some 900 kilos.

Here are San Antonio, Texas’ Julian Gold’s Holiday Glitz 2011 windows, submitted by Michael Levermann. Thanks Michael.
“We wanted our windows for this holiday season to be simple, contemporary, but still scream holiday. We used contemporary mirrored tiles, LED white lights, and large red ornaments on chain the largest being 2 feet in diameter. They were designed and created by Michael Levermann and Michael Huerta.”
-Michael Levermann, Visual Merchandising Director

There have been a couple of stories written in the past couple of weeks for work that I have been doing and I wanted to share them. (I had to toot my horn)
One is a business profile on Apple’s website. I have done quite a bit of work developing sales tools for the iPad, and Apple has recognized our company for its use of the iPad. There are a few mentions of me.
Apple: Scott Kay & iPad (developed by Rudy Pospisil)
The other is a profile piece, written by Kate Racovolis. The title is “A Preview of Holiday Windows Through a Photographer’s Lens” and concerns itself with my shooting of windows, with the Bergdorf Goodman windows as a main contributor to the narrative thread.

Thanks for letting me toot my horn.
Cheers.

UXUS Press Release:
2011 Holiday Windows
by UXUS for Banana Republic
UXUS was invited by Banana Republic to create the 2011 holiday window scheme for their flagship stores in Milan, Paris and London. The concept is a bold, contemporary take on traditional Christmas ornament motifs, showcasing Banana Republic’s sophisticated signature holiday looks. UXUS’s solution resulted in a lighthearted Op Art interpretation of a classic Christmas ornament theme.
Christmas baubles are enlarged and presented in a kaleidoscope of optical dot and stripe patterns creating an illusionary dimensional trompe l’oeil effect. In-store, the baubles are piled high on shelves with graphic backdrops completing the holiday campaign. Combined, these elements present an unforgettable modern take on the traditional Christmas holiday theme.
The UXUS Banana Republic 2011 Holiday window and in-store presentation will fully be revealed on December 7th, 2011.
