NY, NY (all along Broadway Ave)
Along Broadway, from Columbus Circle (59th St) to Mitchell Square Park in Washington Heights (168th St), is an outdoor public installation of approximately 18 large animal sculptures created by Peter Woytuk, a sculptor based in China, Thailand, and Connecticut (website here). The Morrison Gallery of Kent, Connecticut, the Broadway Mall Association, and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation collaborated to bring the event to light.

I hadn’t heard of the installation and just happened by chance to pass by the two pieces I have posted here, “The Falling Apples” and “3 Big Apples”. They were installed this past October and will be up till this coming April. When I have time during the Christmas break, I will take a long stroll and photograph the entire series.

NY, NY (20th Street)
Attending Darrin Haddad‘s Holiday party last week, I came upon this artwork in the lobby, which I thought was very nice. I don’t know who made it. I am trying to find out and will let you know.

I am also trying out some new functionality. You can zoom in quite a bit by moving your cursor over the image. This way, I can have a normal-sized image that fits in the post, but if you want to see more, you can easily zoom in. Let me know your feedback. I am thinking of doing a combination of the thumbnail galleries along with a couple of zoomable images (I can’t do all of them as their file size is quite a bit larger in order to support the higher resolution).

Port Authority Art Installation
Poolball Mousetrap

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

NY, NY (42nd Ave)
I came across this last weekend while traversing Port Authority. It looks as if it has been there forever, but this is the first time that I have ever seen it. Granted, I don’t walk through PA frequently, but I do walk through enough that I would have seen this before. I couldn’t find a plaque. Anyone know anything about this piece?

Again, in the Cooper Square area. An Amorino Ice Cream Shop coming soon. Hmmm… Does this remind anyone of anything?

I was walking through Times Square on the way to a conference and shot some of the “installation art” along the way.

99 Walking Men Installation
Manhattan, NY
March 2011

I came across this installation last weekend in lower Manhattan (WTC/Chambers Street A-Train area). It consists of 99 pedestrian traffic light icons from cities around the world and adorns the protective barrier of a new building construction project. The artist is Maya Barkai, and was curated by Ayelet Danielle Aldouby & Elinor Milchan as part of the Downtown Alliance’s Re:Construction project. The photography was done by numerous amateur and professional photographers.

Will Ryman
The Roses

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

Will Ryman, The Roses
Park Avenue, Manhattan, New York
January – May 2011

The Fund for Park Avenue has a new installation on the 3-block stretch of Park Avenue. Called The Roses and created by Will Ryman, they are, well… roses, constructed of stainless steel, fiberglass, marine paint, and brass. They will be up until May. Definitely helps with the winter blahs.
