Bergdorf Goodman Holiday Windows, 2009;
part 2, 5th Avenue

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Bergdorf Goodman Holiday Window Displays; 5th Avenue Side
Manhattan, New York;
November 24, 2009

Here is the creme de la piece de resistance. Again, the hands down annual winner of the holiday windows. I’m including quite a few close ups so that you can get a really good feel for the intricacies of these windows but you really must see them in person.

The theme is “Curiouser and Curiouser” (update: actually the correct title is “A Compendium of Curiosities”) and based on “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll.

The sneak peek that I posted last week can be found here if you want to compare.

5th Ave Star; Holiday 2009

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Of course, what NYC trip would be complete without walking under the hanging star outside of the Trump building on 5th Avenue and 56th Street.

Sak’s 5th Ave Holiday Windows, 2009; part 1

Sak’s 5th Ave Holiday Windows,
Manhattan, New York;
November 21, 2009

Here are the majority of the holiday windows for Sak’s Fifth Avenue. The main six, though, along 5th Ave were still shuttered when I shot these. I’ll have to go back for those. They are to be some sort of high tech collaboration with Microsoft Windows 7. As a Mac user, I can hardly contain myself.

Sneak Peek, 2009

Bergdorf Goodman Holiday Window Displays, Sneak Preview
Manhattan, New York;
November 20, 2009

The Bergdorf Goodman windows will be officially unveiled Monday, the 23rd. Mr David Hoey and Shannon gave me a run through tonight. They pulled back the curtains tonight to allow me to take a few photos of the work in progress and gave me a bit of back history. Very gracious of them, thank you. I post these pictures because I love their art and I appreciate that they want to share it.

These windows have been in the making for over a year. There is an amazing amount of hand craftsmanship. All of the books are made by hand. The chess pieces have been acquired from Indonesia. The wood is paper overlay made to look like wood. Stairs gathered from far and wide. Alice in Wonderland is seen in all of the windows. Here’s a bit of trivia that I just learned tonight… each year, Teedledee and Teedledum are always in there. Baby New Year too. The amount of forethought put into these windows is incredible.

The finalized windows will be up next week. Stay tuned… and make sure to see them in person.
